ROSS KELLY
Background
Moved to Melbourne from Tasmania to further my experience with a wider variety of equipment types and duties in workshop and field environments.
I travelled to Europe where I spent two and a half years working and travelling. After which I returned to Australia and the heavy diesel/ mobile plant industry.
Working my way up into frontline supervision and Management roles. I worked as a Service Technical Trainer for a period where we developed our own materials and resources. We delivered Technical training to Apprentices and Technicians from foundational to
advanced levels and Operator Equipment Familiarisation courses.
Living and working in places such as PNG, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia gave me a depth of experience dealing with isolated work sites, basic conditions and resources, varieties of cultures and languages. It also provided the opportunity to mentor local staff and guide them into further career advancement. In some instances, it involved setting up new operations, building relations and contacts in the region.
Working directly for and dealing with businesses from small family owned and run to multi nationals gave me insight into how businesses operate. Importantly the causes of inefficiencies and issues that can impact operations and staff morale. I formalised my understanding of business practices by completing an advanced diploma in Business Management and online studies with Harvard Business School.
